Words cannot describe the magic of Super Bowl Sunday to any football fan, but to actually play in it? That takes new heights that are unimaginable. When the team lines up for kickoff and those thousands of flashbulbs go off, there can only be one thing on your mind: Super Bowl.
Together, the Giants made it this far. They established themselves as NFC East Champions after beating the Jets and Cowboys to end the regular season. Then the Falcons came into the Meadowlands and our defense shut them down all game long. Afterwards our beloved Giants travled to Titletown to beat the defending champion Green Bay Packers. And two weeks ago in the NFC Championship, two great defenses fought in a battle, but in the end, the Giants proclaimed themselves as Super Bowl bound after Lawrence Tynes kicked the game winning field goal in Overtime.
What a magical ride the Giants have been on to get to this point. At least, it may seem magical to a fan, but these Giants expected this. They believed in each other when no one else did. Their head coach preached teamwork until the very end, and as a result this team believes in each other.
But now there is just one final game to play. Four years ago former Giants captain Michael Strahan referred to the Super Bowl as a funeral, and you're either going to a funeral for the Giants, or you're going to a funeral for the Patriots. That's right, this is the Super Bowl, where not only dreams can come true, but where they can become crushed in a flash. As a player that can either excite you or terrify you, and possibly make or break you.
This team is ready for the big game. There is not one individual on this team who doesn't fulfill a significant role. That was clear after the NFC Championship for sure. I am confident our offense will be absolutely fine against the Patriots because of my hero Eli Manning. Eli is not only one of my favorite atheltes, but he is someone to idolize in life. He doesn't make excuses, he doesn't act like he's better then anybody else, he just works his ass off to be the very best he can be for one reason only: for the team to win. Victor Cruz says if he didn't have Eli Manning believing in his abilities during two-a-days he wasn't sure if he would have been able to make it to the level he's at now. Not only that, Eli has endured constant comparisons to his father, and older brother. Eli is such a good dude man. I think his cool, calm, collectiveness this season and his belief in his teammates allowed them to emerge as an offense. They will move the ball against this Patriots team.
As for the defense, it's all about the "nascar" formation. That's the name Perry Fewell gave to the formation they use on 3rd down passing situations. Tuck, Osi, Kiwanuka, and Pierre Paul line up like demons to get to the quarterback. Williams is usually in at linebacker cause he's faster, and he has the speed to either blitz or drop back effectively. This formation held the 49ers to one third down conversion last week, and only one catch by a wide receiver. Wow. Now that's a bunch of crazed dogs, and I know for a fact this group will get even more excited against our ol' friend Tom Brady. If Brady does get the ball off on third down we know he's most likely going to Gronk, or Hernandez. Rolle's assignment will be Wes Welker, so that means the tight ends will most likely be doubled by Williams/Boley and Phillips. I think this will be a great matchup for both teams. I can't wait to watch.
The Super Bowl. It takes a group of individuals with extreme dedication to get this far. There have been NFL greats, hall of famers, that have to live with the bitterness of never winning the Super Bowl. The idea of embracing that Vince Lombardi trophy as confetti falls down on the winning team is enough to give anyone goosebumps. The Giants deserve to be here, and so do the Patriots. But now its' time to finish the job. Everyone has to believe, everyone has to give it everything they've got, and everyone has to be all in.
It's been an amazing year to be a Giants fan, and it's time to witness the final step on their quest for greatness. They have been resilient throughout the playoffs, and they've fought from a 7-7 record to 5 straight wins and a Super Bowl appearance. I believe in the New York Giants. This matchup was meant to happen, and we're living the dream.
So with Super Bowl Sunday on our door step there is much to do. Food to get ready, playlists to make, and a tremendous experience to prepare for. Super Bowl Sunday is a great tradition and to have the honor of our Giants being in it is something to be very proud of. Super Bowl XLVI, Giants fans, at this point there's only one thing left to say:
