It may have been considered a perfect ending. After Tom Brady's final hail mary attempt was broken up by Kenny Phillips it was official. The Giants had won the Super Bowl. In a game where both defenses played well, Eli Manning led the Giants to yet another fourth quarter come back this season on the worlds biggest football stage. In a roller coaster season, the ending was simply awesome.
Four years ago the Giants went on the most incrompehendible Super Bowl run unlike any other in history. The Giants were highly unfavored every week and most experts didn't think they stood a chance. As everyone knows, the Giants beat the previously unbeaten Patriots in Feburuary 2008 to complete their magic carpet ride.
Then this year, the Giants did it again. With their backs against the wall the Giants overcame unspeakable odds to get to the Super Bowl against the Patriots yet again and win it. That's what belief will do to you. Because as head coach Tom Coughlin says, "All is possible to those who believe."
Tom Coughlin also used a word that he doesn't throw around very often. The night before the Super Bowl he gave the team a speech. He talked about believing in each other and finishing the job, something he had preached to the team all year. But to finish the speech Coughlin said to the team that he loved everyone of them. And that's why the Giants lived the dream and won the Super Bowl. They believed in each other, they loved each other, and they finished the job. That's what this game of football is all about.
This Giants season has been one to remember. Fans are still basking in the glory the Giants provided for them. For this moment in time, the Giants destiny has been fulfilled. This feeling of victory is what any football player that's ever played football on any level dreams about.
But the journey doesn't end here. Football is endless, that's the beauty of it. No championship is permanent, no moment of glory is forever. This years accomplishments have been made possible by the blood, sweat, and tears of these Giants, and while these memories may be forever, Giants football goes on.
Football is a fight, a struggle, and a passion that goes on forever. The Giants have made memories that will last a lifetime for the fans, but in 6 short months, a new year of Giants football will be underway once again.
So Giants fans, as our idols parade through the canyon of heroes, as we purchase overpriced merchandise, and as we beam in pride at the commercial that says Eli is going to disney world, remember that being a Giants fan is forever. That's what makes it special. I will never forget the memories the Giants have provided for me personally. Being a Giants fan is what I know because it's how I was raised. It was the support of my grandfather that made it special. Not a day goes by I don't miss him, and I think about him during every game. Giants football is a tradition special to me because of my family. After any magical Giants win I feel like I am seven years old again, sitting in the upper deck with my father and grandfather eating a crappy hot dog.
Giants fans, appreciate this moment, it's a beautiful one. And remember that next year, we'll be back to kick some fucking ass.
Go Giants. Big Blue forever baby.
